Vegacervera gorges

General information

Place

Vegacervera Gorges form a rugged corner of extraordinary beauty. Its present appearance is due to both the slow but relentless erosion by the Torío River and the capacity of limestone to be dissolved by water. The result is an impressive gorge bounded by vertical and steep limestone walls, which impose extreme conditions for life.
Birds that frequent these environments, such as the showy wallcreeper or the agile crag Martin, have very precise adaptations to survive.
In the vicinity of the course of the river, it is possible to detect some riverside birds, like grey wagtails, which are always linked to exiguous riverside forest that exists within the gorge.
