What are the PIOs
Points of Ornithological Interest
The PIOs, Points of Ornithological Interest, are a series of places, sites or areas of the regions of Cuatro Valles recommended for beginners in bird watching or where to enjoy this hobby.
In the territory of Cuatro Valles, 44 PIOs have been selected, distributed through their seven districts: El Bernesga, El Torío, El Luna, Omaña, La Cepeda, Laciana-Alto Sil and Babia. They are places, mostly of easy access, from which it will be possible to spend a good time devoted to birdwatching.
Besides their territorial distribution, with these 44 PIOs, it has been attempted to cover the different habitats, natural ones as well as those influenced by the man's hand that Cuatro Valles offers to birds. In this way, high mountain environments are represented, as well as different types of forests, banks of rivers, lagoons and humid areas, the reservoir, areas of traditional agrarian handling, or towns.
Seven of these 44 points are integrated in their ornithological routes. Seven journey proposals where visitors can observe different environments and the birds more frequent in them.
