Las Tres Marías is a rugged limestone massif located north of Casares de Arbas. On their steep slopes, conditions are very stringent, and in contrast to the valley bottom, much more benign, where bushes and large grasslands thrive.
In the higher areas it’s easy to observe birds adapted to these environments, which typically use cracks and cavities in rocks to establish their nests. They present different adaptations to survive: long and sharp nails help them to cling to rocky walls; with the thin and slightly curved beak, they search invertebrates in the fissures to feed themselves... Their aerobatics don’t go unnoticed.
