The Ubiña massif is one of the highest in the province of León and the highest one, in the territory of Cuatro Valles.
The peacefulness of the deepest parts of the valley of San Emiliano leads to inhospitable conditions, typical of high mountain lands, a rugged environment dominated by rocky crags and screes that spill down the slopes of the highest peaks, which rise as moles of white limestone.
Climate is severe at any time of year, even in summer. However, some birds like the yellow-billed chough, the red-billed chough, the alpine accentor or the snowfinch have found in these peaks enclaves suitable for living.
