The large cereal steppe of La Cepeda has some lagoons that collect water from seasonal rainfall and remain it until the summer heat causes its evaporation. The Gallega Laggon is one of the largest of these endorheic lagoons; in it, gadwalls, redfishes or grebes, among other birds related to the aquatic environment, find a true paradise.
Surrounding the lagoon, sometimes until its same shore, extend unirrigated fields where to alternate cereal and fallow. In them, it is possible to sight some birds typical of steppe environments and unirrigated crops such as red-legged partridge, black-eared wheatear or tawny ppit. Some small prey such as the common and the lesser kestrel, or the Montagu´s harrier are also frequent in cereal field environments.
