El Castro chestnut forest

Chestnut trees are rare in Cuatro Valles; just thrive in specific enclaves of La Cepeda, and especially, in the Alto Sil, where they form groves managed by man since ancient times. In the municipality of Palacios del Sil chestnuts make spots of certain entity, as in the vicinity of the town of El Castro, where several chestnut groves characterized by high foliage on the tops and by the low insolation that the ground receives during spring and summer.
Here live the common redstart, the hoopoe and the pied flycatcher. The European nightjar remains crouched on the ground waiting for the night gives it the opportunity to capture insects that serve as food.
