RECOMMENDATIONS FOR BIRD WATCHING
Equipment
-Slight binoculars, of 8x30 or 10x40 increases
When your hobby has become something more, telescopes and monoculars are often an indispensable ally in the observation, but they are costly.
-Bird guides that help us in their identification, as the "Guide and map of birds and ornithological resources of the Cuatro Valles districts"
-Field notebook to write down observations and any other relevant information (date, time, habitat, weather situation…). Drawing pictures and schemes can be useful for subsequent checks.
-CDs for recognition of birdsong are very useful to train with different sounds and help a lot in the field of identification.
Clothes
Clothes must be comfortable and resistant. They must be adapted to the conditions of the visited place, and to the season (the time of the year). In mountain areas, such as Cuatro Valles, meteorological changes can be very sharp, even in summer.
It is advisable to have many accessible pockets where to keep things with easiness
Better wear discrete colours that allow us to be mimicked with the environment.
Observation
Bird watching requires a good workout that comes with experience. This is interesting
-Knowing how to look for
Best detect birds with the naked eye or by their singing and, once located, use binoculars.
It is good to sit down or to get down, staying hidden until birds get used to your presence and go coming closer.
-Knowing how to watch
Not all birds are everywhere. It is necessary to know how to watch in detail and accurately: on branches, on trunks, on the ground, in clear areas, between scrubs or in the sky.
-Knowing how to find
The observation practice helps to know what we have to find. When that level of experience is achieved, a simple shadow to backlighting, or a song in the deep of the forest will allow us to identify what continues hidden to the inexpert eyes. Dedication and patience are the only recipe.
Birdwatcher’s behaviour
-Go unnoticed
-Do not shout
-Do not make sudden movements and move slowly, keeping an eye on the environment, on the songs...
-Do not disturb the birds
-Extreme the caution in the breeding season. If you detect the parents feeding the brood, never harass them and particularly do not move the branches away or the stones to observe better the nest.
-Patience is the best ally for birdwatchers
-Only with perseverance and dedication is acquired the skill of good birdwatcher
