The route begins in Caboalles de Arriba, at the western Capercaillie (Urogallo) Interpretation Centre. It leads the visitor through the heart of the rural district of Laciana and Alto Sil, in the far west of the Four Valleys area (Cuatro Valles), this area is home to some of the most spectacular mixed oak woods of the western part of the mountains of Leon.
The route, which is linear and very easy, runs from Caboalles de Arriba to the pass at Cerredo, passing through a mixed wood of great interest which, as well as Oaks, contains Ash trees, Aspen, Lime trees, Elms, European Beech and Birch. The grass meadows which can be seen in many places along the route testify to the use which man has made of this land.
The walk is ideal for observing forest birds such as the Eurasian Nuthatch, Goldcrest, Eurasian Bullfinch, Jay, Marsh Tit, Common Buzzard, and Shorttoed Eagle. Of particular interest for its singularity and its status as an Endangered Species, is the presence of the Western Capercaillie.
